Please, no blinking bras in Coquitlam
Tri-City residents who frequent tattoo parlours, adult video stores and methadone dispensaries may soon have trouble finding what they need in Coquitlam.
The city is considering stipulations that seriously limit or prohibit certain “undesirable businesses” planning to operate in the municipality.
Changes to the business licensing and zoning bylaws seek to put a distance of at least one kilometre between methadone dispensaries, tattoo parlours, adult video stores, adult toy stores, cheque-cashing shops and scrap metal dealers.
Non-registered massage parlours, pawn shops, methadone clinics, exotic dancing businesses and escort services would be prohibited within the city limits.
Coun. Mae Reid, a member of the land use committee, which received the report, said she would like to see bylaw changes that would limit how a business could display it products and signs.
