Susan Davis is a Vancouver-based sex worker who advocates for the decriminalization of prostitution and also collaborates with police in sensitivity training.
…
“There were police on foot and in cars, all over the usual sex worker neighborhoods,” she said. The presence may have kept potential new clients away, but it also secured rowdy areas, and no sex workers reported violence or abuse at the hands of a client during the Games.
…
Several women in the industry had been concerned that out-of-town sex workers might be more than just competition. “They don’t know how to operate safely in the city,” Susan Davis, a longtime city sex worker, said before the Games.
But Molly G, a Montreal-area sex worker who took the bus to Vancouver for the Olympics, is returning to her hometown this week with nothing but positive impressions of the city and her two-week adventure. “Some local girls here showed me the ropes, and the clients were a lot of fun,” she said. “It was just a good time, and I never felt at risk.”

Kate Gosselin Set to Compete in Dancing With the Stars
We knew Kate Gosselin couldn’t stay away from television too long. She might be done pimping out her kids for her own fortune, but girlfriend wasn’t content with her fifteen minutes and dozens of magazine covers. Amidst rumors that Gosselin was shopping around a dating show a la Octo-Mom, it seems Kate is taking her newly updated hairdo and newly single self and heading to the stage! She’s set to compete on the next season of Dancing With The Stars. She might be a mom of eight, but thanks to some well done surgical procedures, she’s nipped and tucked in all the right places and ready to shake her booty on the dance floor.
Kate’s certainly come a long way from her days as the frumpy OCD mom of many. She’s made the transition from Walmart (Who wants to nip/tuck 3.8 million cars worth of emissions from its carbon footprint!) to Barneys, from a mullet to long and luscious locks; and now, from TLC to ABC. Tell us, will you tune to watch Mama Gosselin shake her groove thang?

Tony wilson beat me to it… Arrggg. One question. Pussycat Doll Nicole schw… schwar… Lewis Hamiltons bird, She’s in a girl group where she dances everyday. Could this not be slightly unfair. Sure she doesnt do the Cha-Cha (or whatever it’s called) but to get where she is, she would have done ballet or some form of other, possibly classical dance before turning to ****** street dancing (no one else think they look like street walkers?). It’s sad that todays music isnt about who can write good songs to share with the world but about who looks more like a woe. At least that girl can actually sing and has a pretty good voice unlike Cheryl Cole who is purely famous because she looks good. She’s got absolutley no talent. Look at that, a story about Buzz Aldrin on an American dance show and I can still get in a dig about Cheryl Cole, I’m on fire.

MOSCOW (AP) — Anger and Soviet nostalgia are sweeping Russia after its dismal showing at the Vancouver Olympics, triggering a purge of sporting officials in an effort to prevent another humiliation when the nation hosts the Winter games in Sochi in 2014.
Iraq early voting shattered by deadly blasts
BAGHDAD (AP) — A string of deadly blasts shattered an early round of voting in Iraq Thursday, killing 17 people and highlighting the fragile nature of the country’s security gains ahead of crucial parliamentary elections this Sunday.
Iraq security forces were out in full force, trying to protect early voters in an election that will determine who will lead the country through the crucial period of the U.S. troop drawdown.

Organized by the Ridge Meadow Community Action Team, a group of service providers that includes Alouette Additions, the Ironhorse Youth Safe House, School District 42 and the Ministry of Children and Family Development, the candlelight vigil was a way to talk about a topic that’s often taboo.
“There’s a stigma attached to it,” said team leader Lauren Huber, who works with Onyx, a program that provides support services for sexually exploited youth.
“A lot of people don’t know it’s happening right here in Maple Ridge. A lot of it is hidden. It can happen to anybody, from the most vulnerable youth to the most positive outgoing teen.”
The Onyx program, run by PLEA Community Services Society of B.C., has a current caseload of 15 teens from across the Tri-Cities, Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.
Huber says sexual exploitation can take place in various forms, ranging from child abuse and prostitution to an increasing trend of teens being exploited via the Internet.

Thats not the case for one sport being considered for the London Games pole dancing. Certainly, all of the hundreds of thousands of people who have lobbied online for the demonstration sport cant all be tramp-stamped strippers and lonely Iowa businessmen; a few thousand voters must be NBC executives dreaming of through-the-roof ratings. Endorsements might be a problem; you have to wonder about the Happy Meal toy. But you can bet theyll be a fist fight to be a judge.
…
Of course, Im no authority on pole dancing outside of late-night Cinemax movies. Gentlemens clubs are not where I hang out, despite massive Dallas billboard offers of $4.99 steak lunches. However, in my pre-church-going days back in the evil 70s, I traveled to Florida to visit a friend and we, a couple of wild untamed stallions (we told ourselves after trudging home alone regularly), ventured to an establishment that remains the best-named strip club in the history of America: Carmichaels Academy of Cultured Anatomy.

Brangelina and their brood continue to consume Italian ice cream in Venice, for it is a time-honored tradition that all American families vacationing in Italy must gorge themselves silly on gelato. Luckily, the superior genome of the collective Jolie-Pitts means nobody will get fat. [DailyMail]

The investigation into the near-stun-gunning of Blanket Jackson continues, and it’s all miserly Katherine Jackson’s fault. Last year Jermaine Jackson’s ex-wife Alejandra accused Jackson matriarch Katherine of trying to pay child support with gift cards to Ralph’s supermarket. Nary twelve months later, Jermaine spawn Jaafar would make like his granny and purchase a “credit card” from Ralph’s ( loophole!) which he would use to buy a stun gun online. Further: 13-year-old Jaafar has a brother named Jermajesty, and is super adorable. Case closed. [TMZ] [TMZ] [TMZ]

… Marriage Ref’: Right show, wrong time, too long
The most-hyped product of the Winter games, “The Marriage Ref” (10 p.m., NBC, TV-14) debuts in its regular spot after a post-Olympics sneak peak last Sunday.
I had rather low expectations for “Ref,” a show where celebrities offer quips and observations about the private peculiarities of perfect strangers. It’s funnier than I anticipated.
On Sunday’s helping, producer/creator Jerry Seinfeld joined actor Alec Baldwin, morning host Kelly Ripa and “Ref” host Tom Papa to evaluate grievances between a husband who wanted to live with a stuffed dead dog and a wife who did not. The trio of experts also evaluated a marital tiff over the introduction of a stripper pole into the master bedroom.
The odd squabbles made for some quick one-liners and amusing patter between the talent. But “Ref” eventually boils down to a combination of “Husbands Do the Darndest Things” and “The Newlywed Game.”

The 47-year-old grandmother was found floating face down in Bertrand Creek in Aldergrove in May 2006.
Butorac is currently in police custody for the murder of two sex trade workers.
In January 2008, he was charged in the murders of Sheryl Lynn Koroll, 50, of Langley, and 46-year-old Gwendolyn Jo Lawton of Abbotsford.
